Wellbe4OSH – Observatory of Well-Being for Occupational Safety and Health

The construction sector faces persistent structural challenges associated with high physical and psychological demands, including long working hours, poor work–life balance, frequent geographical mobility, and organizational contexts characterized by high levels of pressure.

These factors contribute to a high prevalence of psychosocial risks, with a direct impact on workers’ safety, health, and well-being at work, as well as on productivity, human resource retention, and organizational sustainability (e.g., conflicts or complaints, stress, mood changes, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, turnover, presenteeism, absenteeism, performance issues, and a higher number of occupational accidents).

In parallel, the digital transition driven by Industry 4.0 and the emergence of the Industry 5.0 paradigm place human well-being at the center of competitiveness, innovation, and organizational sustainability, thus requiring integrated, preventive approaches grounded in scientific evidence.

In this context, the Research and Development project Wellbe4OSH – Observatory of Well-Being for Occupational Safety and Health, integrated into the Portuguese Laboratory for Healthy Work Environments (LABPATS), a partner of Universidade Lusófona, emerges as a strategic and innovative response to the need to understand, monitor, and promote healthier work environments in the construction sector.
